Weight loss is sometimes difficult to do and not all calories are created equal. Different foods are metabolized through different pathways in the body.

1. Grapefruit

Grapefruit is known for for it´s calorie-burning properties. Having a grapefruit in the morning with your breakfast is a great way to start your day! However, if you’re if you’re anything like me, you might be tempted to dump a spoon of sugar on it……don’t do it!!! If you need to add sweetness a good option is a little honey drizzled over it. 2.Eggs

Eggs have gotten a bad rap over the years however they are quickly making a comeback. There are new studies that show that eggs do not increase blood cholesterol and do not cause heart attacks. Don’t believe me? Go ahead, do a search online to find the recent studies!  Eggs are packed with healthy fats high amount of protein vitamins and nutrients with low calories. It’s a great option that will help you stay full when you are limiting your calorie intake. Almost all of the benefits from eggs are found in the yolk. So skip that egg white omelet, and go for the whole egg omelet! Adding in fresh spinach or green leafy vegetables will keep your energy levels up and feeling full for hours!

3. Lean beef and chicken breast

Ok this is an obvious one. However red meat, once again has gotten a bad rap. Check out the newest studies that debunk this long standing myth. Processed meat does no fall under this category for best weight loss foods. Lean beef and chicken breast is high in protein, and protein is what keeps us feeling full and curb our cravings for snacking! Unprocessed meat is definitely a weight loss food you’ll want to focus on in your diet!

4. Leafy greens

Kale, spinach and collard just to name a few. Leafy greens are naturally low in calories but high in fiber. Fiber is essential to maintain a full feeling during your weight loss journey. It’s a great filler! Adding these into your meals, soups or even drinks, is great way to add vitamins and minerals (not to mention the antioxidant benefits!)  without adding the calories.

5. Canned tuna

I’ve heard so many people say they don’t eat seafood, but yet they’ll eat tuna. (Yes, I’m talking about me too!). There is just something about tuna that doesn’t feel like seafood for me.  This is a great option for a quick meal. Make sure you chose tuna in water, NOT oil. Tuna is low fat and high protein. Make a salad and add a can of tuna to it, mix in some leafy greens and Vola, high protein and low calorie meal. It didn’t even require you to turn the stove on!

6. Cottage cheese

Dairy products are generally high in protein with little carbs. They also provide essential calcium which also aids in healthy weight loss.  Most dairy also includes healthy fats. I know the word “fat” might have some of you gasping! After all, this is about foods to help with weight loss! But not all dairy is bad! Natural occurring fat in dairy can be a good source to get the recommended daily amount, while also packing on the protein. Our focus here is on cottage cheese in particular. It’s mostly just protein with very little carbs or fat.

7. Avocados

This has become quite the star in the weight loss world. As people are starting to understand the importance of healthy fats, avocados have taken the spotlight. Not only are they delicious, they are also very versatile in many dishes. There are numerous ways to add avocado into meals or even just eat alone. High in healthy fats they are comparable to fats found in olive oil. They also contain some important nutrients such as potassium and fiber. Another interesting fact is that the fats found in avocados have been shown to increase the nutrients from the vegetables by 2.6 to 15-fold. Even more reason to throw an avocado in your salad!!!

8. Apple cider vinegar

This is a fabulous to choice to use in making your own dressing. Studies have shown that by taking apple cider vinegar after or during a high carb meal it will actually increase the feeling of being full and make people eat 200-250 calories less! It also can help control blood sugar spikes after a meal. There has been numerous studies that show apple cider vinegar aids in healthy weight loss which is why it makes our list for top weight loss foods!

9. Chia seeds

Chia seeds have the unique ability to swell up in liquid and expanding. This can aid in making you feel full longer. They do contained high amount of carbs, 12g. to be exact. However 11g of those are fiber. Which technically makes it low carb! Chia seeds provide one of the best sources of fiber in the world! Making it a great addition to your weight loss foods!

10. Brassica vegetables

This includes broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussel sprouts and kale. Our focus will be on cabbage here. Red cabbage tends to hold the higher benefits here. As most fruits and vegetables yielding a rich color (purples, reds and dark greens) will have more benefits than the pale versions. But let’s be real, all kinds are great!  Eating cabbage cooked or raw will be beneficial. However keep in mind, heat can break down some of the chemical compounds found in cabbage (and other brassica vegetables) offering less of the benefits if you kept the leaves crunchy. Cabbage is high in fiber and packed with vitamins and nutrients.
